Condes de Albarei Albariño (2022)
I popped into The Cheesy Grape in Henley-on-Thames for cheeky glass whilst waiting for my friend, Mark, to arrive. I was chatting away to the chap behind the bar for several minutes before I realised that it was Rob, with whom I took my WSET 2 course and exam!
Anyway, the wine… I was going to go for a favourite (NZ Sauvignon Blanc) but Rob suggested this wine instead as it had comparable qualities that he thought I’d like. He was right! The dryness and freshness were spot on to my tastes, but with perhaps more subtle acidity levels than a run-of-the-mill Sauvignon Blanc. The mentioned “coastal” freshness was there on the nose, but I couldn’t quite classify it!
I might have to try more of these!
